Do I need experience to operate a mini excavator?
No prior excavator experience is required. The Kubota U27-4 is designed to be operated by homeowners and first-time renters. If you have specific questions about operating technique, our team is happy to help by phone.
How do I rent excavator equipment near me in Orange County?

The included Big Tex 14LP-16 dump trailer handles soil removal. You can also add our dump run service ($1,000/run) and we'll haul the dirt to an approved disposal facility.

Is Pacific Iron Rental the same as renting from a big box store like Home Depot or Sunbelt?
No. Pacific Iron Rental is a local, owner-operated business focused exclusively on one high-quality package — the Kubota U27 mini excavator and Big Tex 14LP-16 dump trailer. Unlike large rental chains, we deliver the equipment to your job site (you never tow) and we're available by phone throughout your rental. Our pricing is also structured for multi-day projects rather than hourly rates.
Are there any hidden fees or surprise charges on my bill?
No hidden fees. Your booking total includes the base rental rate, roundtrip delivery, and California sales tax (7.75%). The price shown in the booking calculator is the price you pay. We don't charge fuel surcharges, environmental fees, or insurance markups. Optional add-ons like dump runs ($1,000/run) and pre-pay fuel ($75) are clearly listed before you confirm.
How is the equipment maintained between rentals?
The Kubota U27-4 and Big Tex 14LP-16 are inspected and serviced before every rental. Because Pacific Iron Rental operates one package instead of a large fleet, our equipment gets more attention than machines at high-volume rental yards. Hydraulic fluid levels, track tension, bucket teeth, trailer brakes, and all safety systems are checked before each delivery.
Can I rent just the dump trailer without the excavator?
Currently, Pacific Iron Rental offers one package — the Kubota U27 mini excavator and Big Tex 14LP-16 dump trailer together. This keeps pricing simple and ensures you always have both digging and hauling capability on site. If you're interested in trailer-only rental, call us at (949) 385-3576 and we'll do our best to help.
What happens if I damage the equipment during my rental?
Normal wear and tear is expected — scratches, minor cosmetic marks, and standard operational wear are not charged. If significant damage occurs, call us immediately at (949) 385-3576 so we can assess the situation. Renters are responsible for damage beyond normal use per the rental agreement. We recommend checking with your homeowner's insurance or contractor liability policy for coverage.
Can I extend my rental if my project takes longer than expected?
Yes. Call us at (949) 385-3576 as soon as you know you need more time. We'll check equipment availability and extend your rental. Pricing adjusts automatically — if you booked 3 days and extend to 5, you get the 5-day special rate of $1,550 instead of being charged daily add-on rates.
Do you deliver on weekends or early mornings?
Yes. Pacific Iron Rental operates 7 days a week, 7am to 6pm. Weekend deliveries are available at no extra charge. If your project requires early morning delivery to meet a concrete pour or inspection window, let us know when we call to confirm your booking and we'll accommodate your schedule.
How do I get dirt and debris removed from my job site?
Two options: (1) Load the included Big Tex 14LP-16 dump trailer yourself during your rental and arrange your own dump facility. (2) Add our dump run service for $1,000 per run — we haul the loaded trailer to an approved disposal facility and return it to your site. Most pool excavation and demo jobs need 1–3 dump runs depending on volume.
Is a mini excavator the right size for my backyard remodel?
For most residential projects in Orange County — pools, grading, trenching, retaining walls, and demo — the Kubota U27 is the ideal size. It fits through standard 36-inch residential gates, operates in tight backyards with zero tail swing, and digs to 9 feet 4 inches deep. It's the most popular size for homeowner and small contractor work across Irvine, Anaheim, Newport Beach, and all of OC.
What's the pickup process when my rental ends?
When your rental period ends, we come to your job site and pick up the excavator and dump trailer — same address where we delivered. Just make sure the equipment is accessible and the excavator is parked on or near the trailer. No need to load it yourself. We handle all transport.
Can I book a mini excavator rental for a homeowner project, or is this only for contractors?
Pacific Iron Rental serves both homeowners and contractors across Orange County. Many of our customers are homeowners tackling DIY pool excavation, backyard grading, drainage installation, or landscape remodels. No contractor license is required to rent. You just need a valid driver's license for identification at delivery.
